Ironman Western Australia
2nd Ironman Western Australia 8:17:47 Swim 3.8 km 00:47:24 Bike 180km 04:35:41 Marathon 42.2km 02:51:16 An 18 minute PB was alright... I can go faster, but In the realm of racing, winning & placing is more important. I went for the victory & know I left everything out there. There will be another day, today wasn’t meant to be that day. Before the race, I had a look to see what the Fastest UK Ironman record was & did some number crunching. In good conditions on the right course I can go under the current UK mark and get closer to the 8hr barrier… The first Brit to go sub 8 would be something worth talking about. According to TRI 247.com my time is the 3rd or 4th fastest Ironman time posted time by a Briton. I haven't raced Austria or Roth yet, those are the races where World records have been set, they could be Interesting races for me. The main reason I have tended to choose the hillier bike profile races to date is partly I see myself as a developing cyclist & I also know I get good power to weight ratio's on those hard profiles when you match me against taller bigger guys with more watts in tank. Gravity works for me when it comes to courses such as Lanzarote or UK. Im not a big guy so there’s not an awful lot you can do with bike positioning. The Race:I was 2nd out the water with Van Singen of South Africa leading me through the swim & T1, just over 47 mins… I Switched back to Blueseventy as my Wetsuit sponsor at the start of the year being now I wasn't tied to a team sponsor & back swimming in a suit that fit's me great. So to recap my swimming performances this year: 4th out the water in Lisbon ½ Iron International (top pack of 5) 2nd out the water Ironman Lanzarote (break away 2) Top pack in Hawaii World Ironman Championships 2nd out the water Ironman Western Australia (break away 2) I was about 1 min ahead of the main chase group in my "Blueseventy Helix" which included many of the favorites with only Australian legend Jason Shortis just off the swim pace. Getting into T1 I couldn’t find the velcro strap for what ever reason to get my wetsuit zipper down.. Doh… loosing 20-30 secs I finally got 2 helpers to get it off and I was away. Hopping on to my sexy SCOTT Plasma (Yes Scott from Scotland riding a SCOTT) I was still where I needed to be with Van Singen 30m up the road but my legs feeling a little stiff at this point. Literally seconds later Jimmy Johnsen came ripping by, pushing some high Octane Danish Wattage… Crap.. I wasn’t wanting to see him for at least 20k. Jimmy went straight to front of the field and would lead the camera crew & race until mile 10 of the marathon & fight to hold onto a podium finish. Two small pace lines came together early in the first lap with Jimmy off the front holding a 2-3 min gap. After sticking in on the first lap, speeds were hitting up to 50k/hr & I was close to breaking. Eventually things eased off & I was able have a second wind finding my legs again & so I tried shaking things up through spells leading the pace group in lap 2 & 3 - its hard to get away on a flat profile, unlike my favored Scottish mountains. This race would come down to the marathon run. By the third lap only Vernay, myself & Rix were the only guys going to the front willing to push the pace. The ave speed was slowing & no-one willing to push in the 3rd lap & Jimmy's lead extending to 6 mins. I could tell everyone was thinking of the marathon, I tried punching the last 10k of the bike to take something out of the guys that were sitting in going into T2 - 2 of the guys sitting in cheekily over-took me meters before T2 – not good crack. Onto the marathon 4 or 5 of the guys took off at what looked like sub 2:40 marathon pace - I was running 2:46 per k ?(still too fast anyway going by the Garmin). My soleous was pulling tight near where i had my recent injury prior to Kona. I kept telling myself to slow down and to run the sensible numbers. I'm a great believer in compression ware & I believe my CEP compression socks really helped me keep my calf in check at the start & also nearing the end as I began to fatigue. Sure enough I picked them off 1 by 1 sticking to my game plan and was up to 2nd by 26k - Only Vernay ahead. I was 1 min 30 short of leading my second Ironman competition. I pushed hard in the last lap to get to within 50 sec & we eye balled each at the last turn around - the lead bike was in site.. I knew he was worried & could see he was checking his shoulder frequently. The crowd support was amazing & really gave me extra reserves of energy, hearing chants "GO on Scotty you can do do it" "Your Catching him" "he's worried". I really thought the win was there to take and visualised drawing level & taking the race to the line. My salt tablets had dissolved by the beginning of the final lap which I knew I was going to need. Temperatures were recorded to be in the mid 30’s by lunchtime & I pulled up with cramp twice in the last 8 km and walked the remaining aid stations to be sure of a strong finish. I pushed as hard as my body would allow managing the cramps but it wasn’t meant to be this time.. and the race just got ahead of me. In the last mile I knew I could not win & so soaked the atmosphere & enjoyed the last km to the finishing chute. The crowd support was still amazing, the last mile I slowed to soak the energy & enjoy the moment – after many high-five’s I finally trooped down the finish shoot for a 2:52 marathon. It was a very satisfying end to 2009 & now looking forward to 2010. My second Ironman victory will come again its just a matter of time. So Whats Ahead:I will be looking for a new main sponsor & representation going into 2010 & a new Website is under construction so stay posted. As disappointing as it was to not have a continuation with the team next year I move on regardless. I received excellent support & made new German friends I wouldn't of otherwise met. Normann was one of the first people to email & congratulate me this week & I still keep in touch with the guys. Its also just reward for the work that Joe Beer & myself have planned together in getting my 2nd podium finish's under team colours (2 - 2nd place Ironman finishes). Other News:220 triathlon magazine is to do a 2 page spread on me / the Ironman Western Australia race next month I think. I'm also to be in a feature spread in March editon of Triathlete World (UK). Starting down under
I left Bonny Scotland 2 weeks ago & just in time I reckon as I missed the floods that hit Aberdeen the days following my departure for down under. Normally I’m home through this part of the year - down time or offseason as I like to call it but I wanted to race again this year as I know I’m on very good form. I’m currently staying in Perth (Australia) with one of my mates that’s been seconded by Caledus this past year. So Im here to train & will start Ironman Western Australia on the 5th Dec. Training is going well & Im over the jet lag / time difference. My body tends to be a bit slow to climate change & I got rid of my flight lurgy within a few days although 4hrs of sleep a night, in my first week wasn't so good. The training has been going as well as expected ,I haven’t had the specific training I would normally put into preparation for an Ironman event but more just get the cylinders firing & return to the fitness I had prior to Kona. I’m slipping into a pretty good routine and spoilt for choice with plenty of clubs in the form of triathlon, swimming & cycle groups to choose from also the facilities challenge stadium are simply awesome.. Im in good company in some of my group rides - 2 x Olympic gold medalist track cyclist & Rabbobank professional Rider Graeme Brown to name but one -2nd in the tour De Perth this weekend – not bad for 2 weeks training… Nicole Cooke joined the Glen Parker ride on Tuesday to which I said hello congratulated her on her Bejing success & called her Reecca - whoops should of looked at her cycle shoes as It did have name on them lol, I think Rebecca is a swimmer… Bradford’s flat is in Subiaco which is pretty much a hair pin distance between most things I need + has its own CBD & shops. Im in close proximity to both Perry Lakes & Kings Park which are good for trail running & not too far away from the beach for open water swims If need be. Facilities at challenge stadium are simply great & only 5kms down the road from the flat. - 3 Olympic sized pools (1 indoor) - theres only 3... 50m pools in whole of Scotland & all in the central belt. It also has a dive pool, gym, WA institute of sport, tennis courts, grass track, stadium track, 10 multi purpose pitches & a new basket ball courts hall is almost near completion. I have everything I need & more + the weather - its now the start of the Ozzy summer although we’ve had a bit of thundery weather the past few days. Ive also been using Subiaco Sports Physio practice which again is nearby & most of the Western Australia Institute athletes use. Im planning 1 more harder week of training then beginning a 10 day – 2 week taper to Ironman Western Im planning to travel down to Margret river for 2 nights for a homestay through a pro then through to Bussleton Thursday morning. So essential planning to take it easy on race week, then race hard come race day. It’s a stiff pro field - defending Champion Tim Berkel & Ironman Austrlaia Champion Patrick Vernay all starting along with 2 previous winners of the IMWA currently on the start list. I've never raced a flat fast course before so It'll be interesting to see what time I go... hopefully very fast & get close either/both the Scottish or British Ironman record times If i have good day & get favorable race day conditions. - I normally tend to choose the harder profiles as they suit me better being a lighter smaller athlete but If I race like I know my form has been in training I would be hopefully challenging for one the top spots. Times are times but ultimately Im in it to race & place the rest is mere no.s. 18 days to go another week of higher volume & few key sessions then I know Ill be ready, then it’s a case of staying healthy & injury free. Chow for now Scotty PS Thats Challenge stadium above & a few local thats came to watch me train when they heard I was in town :) |

2009 Frankfurt Marathon Update
Michaela Kummer set a new World Record for blind marathon athletes this weekend. Ironman European Champion & Commerzbank team mate Timo Bracht supported Michaela in the record breaking run by partnering her taking over from her husband Oliver going into the last 1/3 of the run. The clock stopped in a new record time of 3 hours 20 minutes 43 seconds, almost 29 minutes faster than the previous record held by Gabriele Berghofer from Austria who held the Record since 2001. Michaela was very happy afterwards: “This was a very special day with a fantastic finish in the festival hall. Thanks so much to both, Oliver and Timo. Timo was a great support and we found very quickly the right running rhythm together. He was a great help and a great motivation.” Timo Bracht: “I had the pleasure to complete a perfect team on a perfect day. But this World Record belongs completely to Michaela. She worked so hard for this race, she did an extraordinary job on the course and deserves recognition. Her outstanding performance and her special attitude should be inspiration for us all.” Michaela suffers from an illness of the retina and her eyesight is at 2 percent. This means that she belongs to the blind category “T12” or “B2”. The mother of two children works as a physiotherapist and has been running for 17 years. Relay Event:1 S2 » Iron 2 02:25:48 02:25:55 (Marino; Jan; Scott (32:38 -10k); Maiki) 2 S1 » Iron 1 02:32:45 02:32:52 (Markus; Mathias; Simon (relay lottery winner; Normann) Martin Lemberg from Bernau near Berlin was the lucky winner who won the free leg slot to join with the Commerzbank triathlon relay. The 26-years-old was the third runner of the first Commerzbank triathlon relay and passed the baton on the double Hawaii Champion Normann Stadler. Together with Markus Fachbach from Darmstadt and Mathias Hecht from Switzerland, the four athletes passed the finish line on the second place in 2:32:45 hours. Martin Lemberg said after the race: „I’m still absolutely enthusiastic. It was a once in a lifetime experience to run with these great athletes in a relay.” The economist already finished two marathons and one triathlon over the complete Ironman distance. Normann Stadler: „Martin is a great guy with extraordinary motivation and love for the sport. He represents those who are able to combine a full time job with triathlon. That is absolutely impressive." Pro Race24 year old Kenyan Gilbert Kirwa won the Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon in a course record of 2:06:14 beating tipped favorite, countryman and 2008 winner Robert Cheruiyot Kiprono into second place. William Kiplagat finished in third place in 2:07:05! Kiprono and Cheruiyot were locked together running side by side from the kilometer 30 mark, then at km 38, Kirwa kicked for a break maintaining the gap until the finishing shoot & breaking Cheruiyot course record from 2007 of 2:07:21. In the womens event, another Kenyan Agnes Kiprop won in 2:26:57 defeating Hellen Kimutai. Poland's Karolina Jarzynska came third in 2:29:10. The current course record in the women's event belongs to Russian Alevtina Biktimirova (2:25:12). A total of 12,614 runners took part in the marathon. The race happened in nearly ideal weather conditions, partly cloudy, and a damp roads with light or no wind. Organizers had lined up one of the strongest fields in the history of the event, both in mens and womens categories. Eleven women runners with personal bests under the 2:29 mark, while 15 men with personal bests under 2:09 made the starting line. Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon 25th Oct
I will be travelling to Frankfurt this weekend to start at Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon along with the rest of the guys to take part in 2 relay teams. The day before the marathon Normann & Timo will take part in the “Brezellauf “ (pretzel run) at 10:30 am. Both will participate in the traditional “warming up” over five kilometers together with the triple Frankfurt Champion Herbert Steffny, Olympic Gold Medallist Jan Frodeno and about 1000 runners. Afterwards they will sign autographs for their fans and enjoy pretzels and apple juice which is regional delicousy. The Brezellauf is as old as the Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon and will take place for the 28th time this year. There is no need to register for those who want to run (& live near Frankfurt) pop along to the exhibition tower (gate east of the festival hall) to join them. The following day Timo will support Michaela Kummer in trying to break the World Record for blind runners. Her aim is to run 3:15 up to 3:18 hours. Timo will run the second half of the marathon side by side with the blind athlete from Calw. The first half, Michaela will run with her husband Oliver. Oliver Kummer is a triathlete and got to know Timo in a training camp on Lanzarote at the beginning of 2009. "I am very impressed about Michaela’s performance and her attitude”, says Timo Bracht. “I’m looking forward to the run with her the second half of the marathon. That’s a great honour for me because it means that she and Oliver trust in me.” Michaela Kummer: “After Timo had confirmed that he would run with me, training was even more pleasure than it used to be. I am very happy that he will support me in Frankfurt just two weeks after his tough race in Hawaii.” Michaela suffers from an illness of the retina and her eyesight is at 2 percent. The mother of two children works as a masseuse and has been running for 17 years now. She did her first marathon in Berlin four years ago. The 44-year-old is looking forward to her attempt to set a new World Record at the Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon: “The marathon in Frankfurt is so special because of the fantastic finish in the festival hall. I am going to put the pedal to the metal with my husband and Timo and hope to have good reason to celebrate on Sunday.” |

Kona Low-down
The swim went to plan. I haven't got this right in my previous 2 starts so it was simple hit the start hard & stay out of trouble. In my previous 2 pro starts I've been beaten up & spat out the back to end up leading the 3rd group out of the water.. not this time I had my Blueseventy PZ3 suit I felt awesome. With almost 200 pro's going at it Its always going to be a physical affair than any other Ironman start. I had one hit in the head at 300m (which looked like Crowy) but I got the seawater out in 1 well time adjustment 5 strokes later - no drama. Things got tight & physical around the buoys, still nothing i couldn't handle, a check just a before the turnaround point, no groups ahead - Ya dancer. I was expecting a surge of pace coming out of the turnaround before it settled back down again then went a bit manic for position towards the end as things livened up in the last 800m or so to the beach. In the melee coming out of the water team mates Mathias, Jan & Marino all made 1st main pack with Flanagan & Potts breaking free 2 mins in front. Onto the bike I was up there with the first flurry of athletes entering the bike leg & so I hopped onto my Sexy looking Scott Plasma 2. Just ahead was Marino (Ironman South Africa & Austria Champ) charging off like he was possessed. The roads are a bit rough in the first 10 mile loop in town & in 1 bump my bottled jumped out, which I was able to catch & push back in but then I hit a 2nd bump & lost all my gel nutrition (mile 1). Both Normann & Timo lost there nutrition in the same area. Ok not a good start I had to re-evaluate food plan & effort. The first hour on the bike here is like an Olympic distance race pace to get position - this doesn't happen in any other Ironman race but I had prepared for it. By the first turnaround I could see the front pace line only maybe 1 min ahead. At that point I thought I cant afford to push any harder than a fat burn zone as I didn't really know when I could next I could take in some carbs or knew what was on offer to get through the bike strongly. Onto the Queen K I was pushing good speed, passed Bayliss early on who looked pretty beat & was pretty much on my own until passed by Rasmus Henning (ETU Eurpean LD Champ) near the airport, which In hind site would have been the ticket to match pace up to the front of the race . Still after 10,20 & 30 miles I was only 3 mins behind the front group & the time checks weren't getting any bigger so I was content to be where I was. At about 35-40 miles the second pace line came through, Captain Stadler (2x World Ironman Champ) at the front leading with what looked like, Schildknecht (Ironman Switzerland Champ), Jammer (Ironman Lanzarote Champ)& team mate Maiki Tweisiek (Ironman Lake Placid Champ). I kept pace with them up to the turn off and most of the climb up to Hawi until loosing a bit of time at the last aid station before the hawi turnaround 2 miles out. It was a little harder to do the aid stations than normal as I had to slow for both gels & fluids. Young Phil Graves (Ironman UK Champ) I believe chased down Potts & was first to Hawi to get the timex bonus before Marino made an attack coming down from Hawi then Lieto made his move to be first in. Maiki (Tweisiek) pushed through to eventually be 2nd off the bike & Marino heading the next line in. I had to resort to a reduced gel plan to which consisted of take what ever I was given (cappuccino & chocolate gels.. which are f'ing awful). I had some minor stomach issues on the bike & held down about 80% of what I took in. Descending down from Hawai I went through a good and bad spells & was passed by team mate Ironman Germany Champ Timo Bracht who paced his bike & run well after a poor swim to finish 6th eventually. Coming back through the lava fields was a lonely ride and I spent much time staring at the tarmac to keep good speed until i was passed by big Alur Johansson at about 100 miles. In the last mile or so I caught a few guys struggling including young Ironman UK Champ Phil Graves & Schildknecht. Into T2 I was in the tent with Potts, Johannsson & Graves. Onto the marathon I didn't know what to expect as I pulled my soelus 6 weeks prior & was just able to log 6-7 hrs around my rehab work into my final 2 week wind down to start the race. I started well & had good cadence, and caught back up with Graves who was out the tent before me. I caught up quickly but by mile 1 I started getting severely sore pains in my kidney. I stop to walk to try stretch the area then after a regurgitation I felt fine & ran quite well re-passing Graves & pushing on but by the 2nd aid station I was walking & vomiting again running well then sick again - this was turn into a routine. Things were getting a bit hazy I think I remember Schildknecht passing me then seeing looking in dire straights at an aid station but pulled it together which got me going again before puking again was at mile 4 & getting really bad pains as I wrenching my guts out across the road swaggering around the place like drunk to watch Cameron Brown come cruising by. I began again then found a rhythm 2 or 3 more times but with some stops to throw up again. Miles 5-8 I was aware of the medi van following me back into town and also the camera crew trying get some TV coverage of my demeanor. - not a good sign when your aware of these guys trying to get you. After plenty of regurgitating & some swagger walking I got through to the mile 13 aid station and was done. I was still inside the top 20 at this point - cooked, fried, sun burnt, dehydrated, sunstroke, dizzy, sick - call it what you will - I was done...Medi van time... I came here to race I think displayed a good performance up to the stomach problems taking its course, I now know I can go with the top guys, roll on the next one. It ashame I have to wait until 2010. |

Training in Kelowna Canada
Some training Pics in British Columbia I’m was based in Kelowna in the Okanagon valley, which is situated in the South of British Columbia, not far from the American boarder & 60 kms from Penticton where Ironman Canada is held. The Okanagan Valley is very diverse in terrain but almost dry enough to warrant being called a desert. The surrounding scenery offers orchards, vineyards, mountains, valleys, lakes, highlands, ski slopes, and trails which is amazing to train in. From Kelowna I have easy access to the Pinnacle Elite Sports & Remedial centres, indoor & outdoor running tracks, good running rails & the newly opened H20 centre with a 50m pool. My cycling routes can cover nearby lakes such as the Okanagan Lake, also home of the Ogopogo Monster - maybe a distant relative to Nessy. I also ride to the nearby ski centre villages such as Big White (1,755 m; 5,758 ft) & Silver Star (1609 m; 5,280 ft). The roads are pretty good & lighter traffic once you’re out into the country. Apart from “Beware of Bear” warnings, I came across another sign I’m not accustomed to “Caution Turtle Crossing” . I didn’t know turtles could live in this part of the world.. Maybe they got lost. |

Team Commerzbank Kona Preperation
The Euro Champs didn't go so well the other week thus the absence of a report. I started well (and that was about it really), I got into the break away 6 off the swim start for the first 1500m or so then it just went down hill from there. I did finish... I was seeing 3's in parts, I was dehydrated and generally not in a good way at the finish line. All in all not a pleasant experience. Cest la vie.. I traveled to Kelowna, Canada this week to do my final 6 week block preparation for Kona where hopefully the no.s dialled will get the performance I'm after at the world Champs. The Apple Triathlon was held in Kelowna today which doubled as the Canadian Nationals. Olympic gold & silver medalist Simon Whitfield took the mens title and Lauren Groves took home the womens event. Kick-off for the most intensive training weeks prior to Ironman Hawaii am 21.08.2009 From now on Commerzbank Triathlon Team faces the most intensive training weeks until Ironman Hawaii. The eight athletes will be preparing for the season’s highlight in different training camps for the next several weeks. This year, the Commerzbank athletes are going to prepare for Hawaii in several training camps: Normann Stadler leaves for San Diego tomorrow. Timo Bracht, Jan Raphael and Markus Fachbach travel to Lanzarote on September 1st for three weeks. At the beginning of this week, Mathias Hecht travelled to an altitude training camp in Boulder/ Colorado. Since Ironman Lake Placid, Maik Twelsiek has been training at Tucson/ Arizona. Scott Neyedli took the plane to Vancouver/ British Columbia yesterday. Marino Vanhoenacker will start his preparation in Belgium before going to Kona already on September 19th. The other athletes will follow in the end of September and will prepare together for the race on Big Island. Every week, the Ironman Triathletes train about 20 kilometers swimming, 600 kilometers cycling and 100 kilometers running. All in all, they do an annual average of 800 kilometers in the water, 15.000 kilometers on the bike and 3.000 kilometers on the running course. This means that they circle half of the globe per year. Lance in his Triathlon DaysI spotted this link in facebook today. An Interesting race archive from 1989 - retro gear & a quality Lance interview guzzling a gallon of water intermittently as he describes his "gut check" tactics on the bike... |

The Metro Aberdeen City 1/2 Marathon - 2nd Aug
1st (course record) 1hr 15:58. I decided to get a late entry for this years Metro 1/2 marathon . I've had a 2nd & 3rd the last couple of times I’ve raced on the new course. I'm into my taper week now where I hope to mini peak prior to Kona for the ETU Champs next weekend in Prague (4km swim 120km bike 30km run) so today's 1/2 fell quite well into my training plans to have hit out on relatively fresh legs for a change. The course is an out back on a old railway line that runs from Aberdeen, Dyce to Fraserburgh (40 miles up the coast). The course is on gravel so you do get a bit of slippage and on a steady gradient profile up to the turnaround point, past Newmacher (maybe 300ft elevation). I kept it steady & under control though the first miles going with a few surges at front. Initially from my club mate Niku Milllot & then Alan Reid of Peterhead. Through the first couple of miles, a gap was created by Alan & myself before the pace settled & Karl Simpson of Shetland joined us at about mile 3. Karl & I swapped the lead pace setting through miles 4-6 as Alan faded, then pushed again going into the second half of the run gapping Karl & ushed home. All in all I'm happy with the morning session, I just have a recovery swim this avo then its case of ticking over until next Saturday's Championship. I leave Aberdeen on the 5th, race on the 8th, return home on the 10th. I'll be representing team GBR for this race & I'll be joined by fellow Scot & 70.3 Ironman triathlete Fraser Cartmell for this one. After then my plan is finish my Kona Prep in Kelowna, Canada before travelling on to join up with my Commerzbank team mates in Kona at the end of Sept. In last few weeks the Commerzbank team has been getting some great results - Marino winning Ironman Austria for the 3rd time, Timo winning Frankfurt for the second time, Norman leading most of the race in Roth with a blistering 4:14 on the bike, then Maiki winning his 2nd Ironman title in Lake Placid last weekend, fingers crossed I can follow up with another successful result in Prague. cheers Scotty |

Stonehaven 1/2 Marathon 2009
Post Race - Press and Journal Article Pre Race - Press and Journal Article This is third time Ive competed in this event & Ive done so In my usual training format - cycling to the event, run the race, hop on my bike for a 2nd cycle session before dipping in the pool back home for a recovery swim. I placed 2nd this year to add to my respective 1st & 3rd positions from 2008 & 2005. Race conditions were really hot & I have the tan lines to prove it. Although just a training exercise the Stonehaven course is one of the more challenging 1/2 marathons you can do which has a profile not far off some the local hill races. Miles splits varied on the profile but show the range of decent / ascent - my fastest mile split was 5:02 & my slowest mile split was 7:15. I ran with Ben Hukins of Aberdeen AAC for the first mile before settling into my rythem then ran alone until the finish. My club team Niku Millott rounded off the podium to place 3rd. |

GBR Selection for Euro Champs
www.triathlon.commerzbank.de - Scott Neyedli at the ETU European long distance championship www.tri247.com article Announcing the new Commerzbank Triathlon Team Commerzbank to continue Dresdner KleinwortÂ’s commitment to triathlon Timo Bracht and Normann Stadler are now both part of the Commerzbank Triathlon Team I received selection notification last Wednesday that I have been picked to represent Great Britain for this year's o3 ETU European Long distance Triathlon Championship in Prague, 8th August. I am obviously thrilled to be selected & look forward to representing my country. The ETU European long Distance Championship this year is reverting to the original format distance or as the ITU rebranded it “o3” distance (triple Olympic distance). The Ironman distance is where I look to peak my performances but I have had success in this race format. I won the M25-29 cat as an amateur in Almere, Holland where the Championship was held in 2006. The triathlon distance is almost 2/3's the ironman distance in the bike & run sections and a bit longer in the swim. The o3 European Long distance Championship race distance is a 4km open water swim, 120km bike, 30km run. The swim will be a 2 lap course, 6 lap bike leg & 3 lap run. There is an individual competition and also the Team Nations competition in which the top 2 or 3 representitives from each country are given points for there respective position for an overall country team placing. There will be a high quality field in this race and would be a good lead in race where I can recover quicker afterwards looking ahead to the Hawaii World Ironman Championships in October where I hope to peak. On a side note the Czech Republic has always been a country I wanted to see as this is where my surname originates 3 generations back. Yours Scotty Local RacesIve been getting back into light sessions this past 10 days and this week fully recovered from my hand tendon pull inflicted at Ironaman Lanzarote. I was asked by Bert to do the run leg of his team at the Fleet Feet summer series race last Thursday, along with stretching my legs at the the Beach 10k & Knockburn triathlon races respectively. Fleet Feet Report came be read here 09 Jun 2009 - The Running Shop BEACH 10KI won the Running shop Beach 10k, although mostly a fun run event. The race has grew in popularity in the past few years and attracts a lot of local district club runners. Ive raced this event once before in 2007 and placed second. The race was more a tactical affair with a front group of 5 at 8km, I was able to make 2 or 3 surges to break the group & eventually claim the win in the final km. 21 Jun 2009 - Norwell Knockburn Triathlon(1500m swim, bike 42km, 10km run) I disappointedly placed 2nd in a below par performance compared to my previous race times on the course. This is Aberdeenshires only open water standard triathlon. Now in its 7th year, it continues to grow attracting a record entry start list & tough opposition from around Scotland. In my 4 previous starts I have a track record of 2 wins & 2 2nds. This years race included 3 previous winners of the event in the past 4 seasons. Mike Adams took the swim out fast, he was competing 2 legs of the race with his father in the team event competition. I wasn't able to take his blistering pace early on and got caught up in the bunch then able to break a way towing a group of 2 including Chimoski & the Junior category winner Lewis Murchie of Fleet Feet. Both Lewis & Mike are local Aberdeen talents to watch out for in the future. They've both came into triathlon in the past year from swimming back grounds & ones to look out for as they develop. Mike's a former Scottish International 1500m swimmer & has already chalked up a couple of great results in the draft legal races this summer in Blenheim & Windsor. I think both lads have huge of potential in them as they develop there bike & run skills in the next few years. I lead the senior race 1:45 behind Mike coming out of the swim & throughout the bike leg, again behind Mike holding a similar bike split. I didn't feel quite as sharp as normal as the winds picked up in the 2nd and 3rd lap & recorded a bike split 3 mins off my best, then lost time pretty quickly as I ran sluggishly coming out of T2. I kept the lead until about 3-4km mark suffering from tightening hamstrings. Graeme Stewart came into Transition with Andy Turnbull about a Min behind me at T2, looked good & went on to take the win. After a stoppage with a really bad hamstring lock at 6km I was able to release it and get back going again. I passed Mikes dad (1st team) on my 2nd wind to placed 2nd overall. In actual fact its a pretty disappointing result but relative to where I am in bigger picture Im where i need to be. This is the first time Graeme has beat me in a triathlon & we're now both 2 wins a piece in Knockburn. Graeme's looking in good shape to taking on Quelle Challenge Roth in 3 weeks time - best of Luck. OtherLast weekend I was invited to be the guest speaker at the Gordonian's Annual Hockey dinner. Being a former Grammar pupil & non hockey player I was flattered non the less by the invitation. The dinner was held at the Palm Court in Aberdeeen where I thoroughly enjoyed the night. I presented a talk about my Triathlon Ironman endevours then presented the annual team awards to the top players. During the night there coach laid an open invitation which i accepted to take part in a club fitness bleep test session planned next month. I'm intrigued with the outcome as the last time i performed this type of assessment I was 2nd year at school. PlansThis year I only wanted to do 2 Ironman races with the intention of a full training block dedicated for Kona. Unfortunately Ironman UK has to take back seat being late on, relative to the world Ironman champs this year. I still wanted to do a big summer race & the Euro long distance champs in the o3 distance is well placed to fill the gap prior to Kona & also of a format distance that I know I can recovery quicker compared to Ironman. Its 7 weeks until the Euro champs, this will be my next target race before culminating in the World Ironman Championships in October. Im going to be doing my Euro champ preparation from Aberdeen these next weeks. I'll be winding up the training load steadily but with a bit more speed play than in my normal high volume loads I do for ironman. I'll probably venture out for the the Stonehaven & Metro Dyce 1/2 marathons as preparation training days. I've done brick sessions around these events in previous years and served me well for the day I come to race. After Prague, some time in August Ill be joining my CommerzBank team mates for a heat acclimation camp prior to kona - destination is TBA. Scott |

Commerz Bank
You may or may not of heard that CommerzBank, now Germany's 2nd biggest Bank had made the acquisition of Dresdner Bank from the Allianz group in August last year. The official announcement of the Triathlon Team integration under the new management was made yesterday (16th June - also my Birthday) in Frankfurt. I'm proud to say that CommerzBank is to continue its support of the triathlon team & myself that Dresdner Kleinwort invested exceptional finance, time management and support into. Below is a team release of the new look triathlon Team. Timo Bracht and Normann Stadler now both part of the Commerzbank Triathlon Team von Commerzbank, am 16.06.2009 As part of the integration of Dresdner Bank, Commerzbank will continue with Dresdner Kleinwort’s commitment to triathlon. The new eight-man Commerzbank Triathlon Team will include Germany’s top triathletes Timo Bracht and Normann Stadler. Commerzbank has been supporting Timo Bracht since 2007.The bank will continue to provide its support to the team until 2011. Normann Stadler is delighted about the expansion of the team: “Timo is a great asset to the team, on an athletic level as well as on a personal level.” Timo Bracht welcomes the team to Commerzbank: “Being in one team with Normann and the other top athletes is fantastic and will benefit us all. Teams are the future of triathlon. I am also particularly pleased to be a part of the team’s exemplary commitment to the fight against doping.” “The continuation of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team and the inclusion of Timo Bracht is a strong signal that the two banks are successfully growing together. Therefore, continuing the commitment was a logical progression. The integration is making good, speedy progress at all levels,” comments Uwe Hellmann, Head of Brand Management at Commerzbank. “The high level at which these triathletes compete and the team concept are fantastically suited to our values of partnership and performance. Together with the comprehensive anti-doping programme, the Commerzbank Triathlon Team also stands for fairness and trust.” Dresdner Kleinwort established the team of upcoming talents in 2007 around the two-time Ironman Hawaii winner Normann Stadler and also developed an exemplary anti-doping concept together with the NADA (German National Anti Doping Agency) and the DTU (German Triathlon Association). Since the team was established, its athletes have celebrated notable international successes, including three top-15 places last year in Hawaii. Timo Bracht (2007 European Champion and third placed at Ironman Germany 2008) is a further asset to the team’s armoury. Six of the team’s eight athletes have already won an Ironman event at some point in their careers. The most recent victory was claimed by Marino Vanhoenacker at Ironman South Africa in March 2009 when he crossed the line in record time. Seven of the team’s eight top international triathletes - Normann Stadler, Marino Vanhoenacker, Mathias Hecht, Jan Raphael, Maik Twelsiek, Markus Fachbach and Scott Neyedli - have already qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Timo Bracht, will be competing as one of the favourites in the European Ironman Championship in Frankfurt on 5th July, 2009. He will be looking for a win as well as a slot for Ironman Hawaii. |

Raising Money for Save the Children - Send Donations
Press & Journal - Career in transition Click here to send donations to Save the Children Trust P&J - Loch Ness monster helps launch sporting challenge I've added a video blog from Pre Race Ironman Lanzarote under the 10 results (scroll down) from last week or click here to view at utube A-MAZE-ING APPEARANCE FROM NESSIE!Loch Ness Monster Arrives in City to Promote Launch of First Mini Monster Duathlon Visitors to Hazlehead Park were left open mouthed today as they spotted the Loch Ness Monster lurking in the park’s maze. It was not just members of the public that were lost in the maze – the Monster seemed to have taken a dramatic wrong turn from its Loch Ness home! The 10ft spoof Monster was in the city today to help launch a brand new charity sporting event for Aberdeen, the First Mini Monster Challenge. The duathlon relay event will see competitors of all ages and fitness run and cycle around Hazlehead Park on June 7 in aid of charity. The First Mini Monster Challenge comprises two relay races, one for families and one for adults. The family race will see teams of four complete two running sections, each 1.5km long, and two 5km cycling sections. In the adult event teams of four will also take on two runs and two cycles – the run will be 3km and the cycle 10km. In both races, each team member will complete one leg only. Hosted and organised by Aberdeen based transport giant, FirstGroup, the event is aimed at everyone regardless of age and fitness as George Mair, Managing Director of First in Aberdeen explained: “The Hazlehead course is very flat and accessible – an ideal course for everyone to enjoy, young or old, fit or unfit. The Mini Monster will not only be an enjoyable day out for the family and a great excuse to start training and keep active and healthy, but also a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a great cause. My team is already in place and we are thoroughly looking forward to the event. If I can do it, anyone can!” Aberdeen will be one of five cities throughout the UK to host a First Mini Monster Challenge. Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Bristol will also stage an event. “Aberdeen has a strong tradition of supporting and participating in sporting events,” added George Mair. “I have no doubt that the north east will turn out in large numbers. If we secure enough support the Aberdeen First Mini Monster Challenge will become an annual event.” One of the world’s top endurance athletes, Aberdeen ironman triathlete Scott Neyedli, was at today’s launch. The runner up in the UK Ironman Triathlon announced that he would be participating solo in the First Mini Monster Challenge as part of his training programme for the Ironman World Championships. He said: “I am thoroughly looking forward to the event. Although I am used to running and cycling much longer distances, this duathlon will help me sharpen up ahead of the World Championships.” He continued: “I want to encourage more people to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle. Running and cycling is a fantastic and enjoyable way of keeping fit. I hope the First Mini Monster inspires the City and the Shire to forget the fast-food, abandon the armchairs, ditch the DVDs, pack in the PCs and instead take on a Mini Monster!” Entry to the Aberdeen First Mini Monster Challenge is only £5 per person (or £20 per team). FirstGroup will donate 25 percent of the entry fee to Save the Children. To register a team or for more information log on to www.firstmonster.com All competitors are encouraged to raise money for First’s charity partner, Save the Children. Caroline Underwood, Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships at Save the Children said: “We have a wonderful relationship with First and its highly successful Monster events. Indeed Monster competitors raised £100,000 for Save the Children in 2008. Both the First Mini Monsters and the original First Monster Challenge in Inverness seem to be going from strength to strength – we are very optimistic that last year’s total will be bettered. “All the money raised for Save the Children from the Aberdeen event will be spent on our work across the UK with some of the most vulnerable children to ensure they get the best start in life. I hope everyone enjoys the Hazlehead First Mini Monster and helps raise vital funds for Save the Children.” The First Mini Monster Challenges are inspired and based upon the First Monster Challenge, FirstGroup’s annual 120km team relay duathlon around the shores of Loch Ness. The winning team of either the family or the adult Mini Monster event will be offered free entry to the First Monster Challenge in Inverness on September 12. Ironman Lanzarote - 6th Position & Kona slot aquired
Ironman Live Race day coverage Race Report I was really worried about my shape as my 4 week lead in was a far cry than what I planned. I got a stomach bug the 1st week I arrived in Lanzarote which meant lots of toilet time in the morning, evening and between sessions. Just as the stomach upset cleared, a bad cold & cold manifested the morning after the Volcano Triathlon which bed bound me in hot & cold sweats for the rest of that week. 2 weeks out I was about 95% clear but with the tightness of time I trained through a cough & shortness of breathe which was hitting me in spells during sessions. Thankfully it cleared fully on race week & then it just a case resting and seeing what was there. The race this year was the stiffest & closest competition ever – in the past 2 years my time could of been a podium place. The start list included: the top 3 from 2008, 7 ironman winners from around the world, the Sydney 2000 triathlon silver medalist and also the 3rd fastest marathon runner ever in Hawaii... so It was going to be interesting. My swim went well, I was at the front for parts of the swim and exited 2nd just behind Stephen and was onto the bike in 2nd place. Last year's and this year's winner Bert Jammaer passed me early on in the bike, then I was alone in 3rd position for the first 45km. Then lost time to the stronger bikers in the field heading up the fire mountains. I think I came into transition in 9th position just behind Stephan Vuckovic (Sydney Silver medalist) and Gregorio Morales (Canary Islands Local Legend) with Stephen gapping the 3 of us in the last 2km. I still ran pretty well recording a 2:55 marathon (my 2nd fastest Ironamn marathon) just catching the big Estonian, 2 x time former Lanzarote Ironman winner and last year fastest bike split in Hawaii - Ain-Alar Juhanson in the last 2km. I just didn’t have the legs to make it into the Top 5 but considering the field and my final preparation, I'm happy + I got Kona qualification. www.tri247.com - Baked, broiled and fried www.triathlon.dresdnerkleinwort.com - Scott Neyedli from Lanzarote: "I'm happy under the circumstances." www.triathlon.dresdnerkleinwort.com - Scott Neyedli finishes sixth at Ironman Lanzarote and qualifies for Hawaii Press and Journal Article - Trouble in paradise for Neyedli www3.marathon-photos.com Photos from Lisbon international 1/2 Iron |

Race Updates Finally: Lisboa & Volcano
P&J - Loch Ness monster helps launch sporting challenge Ill get link set up here soon. Sponsorship& a contribution of entry's to the above event will be donated to Children first. I will take part in the event June 7th. Lisboa 1/2 Iron:Race went well under circumstances - I was 1st pack out of water (4th or 5th). 6th leaving T1 (not the quickest T1) and then made ground chasing the leaders then crashed at the 1st roundabout about 1-2km onto the course. The roundabout was freshly cleaned with water (roads were all dry) & no warning. I landed on my hip and slide into the barrier. I was in 4th position at the time 15-20 sec behind the lead 3. Once I got going again I was in 5th when Markus (My team mate passed me) but I had technical issues to sort & then had 2 further stops to sort them out. My Left brake lever had to be readjusted & slackened brakes to prevent rubbing. The Tri bar was also knocked down 2 inches & wouldn’t budge so had to through areo bottle with fluids and nutrition to cycle again as it was rubbing front wheel also. Once got back going again properly I maybe lost 3-4 mins. I Finished the bike in 8th or 9th. Ran quite well with a bad patch at 3km then felt ok again. I lost 1 position on run leg and gained 2 or 3 eventually finishing 7th. My team mate Markus finished on the podium in 3rd & fellow Brit Dan Brook won leading from the front pretty much the whole race except for one athlete that ripped through the field on the bike leg but blew very early on in the run. I did the race in my adapted nutrician plan which was 2 gels on the run and what ever coke I could get hands on during the run. I was generally disappointed with the crash but roughed it out to still make some prize purse and still performed well under the situation presented. The Awards dinner was in a pretty cool location situated at the casino hall. The venue location and ease of facilities around the race site was well organised & easy to get about – I would go back to race here again for sure. Volcano Tri:This is probably a race in hind site I shouldnt of started & best forgot too. I picked up Stomach bug earlier on in the week since arriving in Club L Santa so I was spending large quanty's of time on the toilet & prior to the race. The Swim went ok, I lost the front 3 near swim start of Van Lierde & Bayliss which was actually the part where you swam 300m then jogged on water for 20m then start swimming again. I exited with Jammer & and young guy 15 sec behind behind the front 2. The race went pretty bad from there on. The cycle did not feel right on the hill sections which i inially put down to tired legs. I had a slow leak (eventually only 30 psi on the front) so every time weight was put onto the front wheel I could feel the rim bounding off the ground. This made the bike leg a lot harder. The Start of the run I felt rubbish but felt better in 2nd 5k. I think I ended the bike in 7th or 8th fell back to 13th then ran back into top 10 in the last 4-500m. Im not happy about the technical issues at all but I should of double checked the pressure after pumping in T1. I went to the bike shop later on to order new tyres & valves for Ironman race. I guess better to pick up on these issues on smaller races than the big ones. You might of guessed but Im feeling pretty rubbish as Ive picked up a cough & cold on transit to Germany for a photoshoot this past week after the Volcano tri. Hopefully Ill be clear by the weekend get 1 good week of training then wind down for the big one on the 23rd. |

Scott Neyedli: Scott the Scot and his SCOTT...
www.tri247.com article - Bike of the Race: Scott Neyedli 2nd at Knockburn Duathlon 4k cross country run; 20k bike; 4k cross country run Newton Run Shoe Sponsor Support (www.triathlonconsultants.com) Press and journal Article News 2 Press and journal Article News 1 Dresdner Kleinwort Team Article: Scott Neyedli's Sunshine Coast Training Camp This was my second trip Down Under & first time with my Dresdner compadraes. Within the first week of arriving I had good feelings that this was a great spot to train in. Last year I trained in the Gold coast and didn’t get the best of weather which broke all precipitation rainfall records - since records began for both months January & February. Thankfully this year the weather was almost perfect for the exception of one week towards the end of my 11 week trip when hurricane Hamish was close-by giving some severe rainfall & 40 knot winds. Peregian Beach is situated about 12kms south of Noosa & about 100 odd km’s up the shoreline from Brisbane. For the first 7 weeks I stayed in a small single unit myself and then moved in with Jan Raphael for my final weeks when Markus Fachbach returned to Germany to write an University exam. The five of us (Jan, Maiki, Mathias, Markus & myself) all of stayed close-by one another in Peregian Beach so it was easy to keep in contact and arrange lifts and do training together if we wished. Being close to guys we arranged to eat together quite often outside of our training sessions which was good for morale and team spirit. If I was to compare to the Gold Coast, I would say Sunshine has a more relaxed and laid back feeling around the area with a good choice of quieter back roads, once you get to know the place better. This makes a good training environment for athletes. Temperature wise I would say the area was a lot more susceptible to high humidity which made training difficult to cope with at the beginning of the trip. Training therefore began as early as 5 am most days as anything after 10 am became unbearable to last any length of time for a quality work out. We would also do some late evening sessions to escape the worst of the heat. Swimming would be the only exception during the day but lots of sunscreen was aptly applied. All regular amenities such as the supermarkets, cinema, remedial therapy, gymnasium, 50m swimming pool and bike support was all close to hand. Peregian Beach also had some decent run trails not far from our living quarters so everything was easy to access. Training at the beginning of the trip was sore to say the least, but always is being that.. the start of a new season. I also had a small operation done in December so I hadn’t been in training for a number of weeks so it took me a little time to build back in my training. All team members have their own training programmes, being that of triathlon it´s very individual. We all have our own strengths and weakness’s but we did most swim squad sessions together at the aquatic centre 50m pool. This was a coached session tailored to our requirements under our aquatic memberships through coach Max. Beyond the swimming squads my training schedule was predominantly done alone although I was able to tie some of bike rides and steady runs with some of the team periodically through each week. Over the course of the training camp my goal was mainly to get back into shape, loose some of my Christmas weight and build up on my base endurance. This mainly consisted of longer bike mileage and steady non-intensive runs. I guess to start off with I was building up from maybe 15- 25 hrs/week and then through certain weeks in Feb and March 30-40 hrs a week but focussing more on strength work and endurance base as a focus towards my first Ironman of the season – Ironman Lanzarote. All in all it was great experience and my top choice of places to train in the last couple of years since taking up the sport and an area I would defiantly recommend to anyone. cheers guys Scotty or as Maiki says Scotti.. He is from Scotland.. and rides a SCOTT |

Jan Raphael will be the first starter this year on March 7th at Ironman New Zealand. After his 8th place in Hawaii 2008, Mathias Hecht will attend Ironman Australia on April 5th, where he will join his teammate Maik Twelsiek. After his excellent 14th place on Hawaii last year, Maik Twelsiek is going to qualify for Kona 2009 at Ironman Australia. Marino Vanhoenacker also wants an early slot for the World Championship which he tries to get already at Ironman South Africa on April 5th. Afterwards, he aims for his fourth consecutive victory at Ironman Austria on July 5th. Scott Neyedli, the most successful starter at Ironman UK with a first and second place during the last two years, follows a new planning strategy this year. Additional highlights will be Ironman Germany in Frankfurt on July 5th as well as Challenge Roth one week later. After Jan Raphael’s 6th place at Ironman Germany last year, also his teammates Mathias Hecht, Maik Twelsiek and Markus Fachbach want to play among the field leaders in Frankfurt. Normann Stadler is concentrating on Challenge Roth on July 12th. Sunshine Coast
A bit late... but I landed safe and sound in Australia. Ive settled into my wee apartment in Peregian beach (just outside Noosa) and getting back into the groove of training again. My stitches from my small operation in Dec are all just about healed. I arrived with 2 of my Dresdner Kleinwort team mates 2 weeks ago, Jan Rafael & Markus Fabach & just over the weekend we've bee joined by 2 more team mates Mathias Hecht & Maiki Twelsiek. I haven't been here long, but I think this spot a much better area to train than in the Gold Coast last year. The sunshine coast is about 100km's North of Brisbane, its a bit more remote, laid back in atmosphere & quieter roads - all in all a great training spot. Although Ive seen a couple thunderstorms, it mostly been in the 30's & I hear the UK has had snow again... So I ain't complaining To cope with the heat, my training schedule has changed to mostly early morning starts at 5am and late afternoon workouts to stay away the hotter temps. Dresdner Team Site - Interview with Scott Neyedli (answered in Dec) New Sponsor: Compu Trainer / RacermateOver winter I picked up a new sponsor to aid with my training. Although Im Australia now, If you hate doing turbo trainer sessions as part of your training programme or live in climate where getting outdoors on your bike over winter isn't possible, Computrainer is great alternative to achieving specific performance works outs & keeping it interesting. The Computrainer & Racermate software in addition to available Ironman bike course profile downloads uses the combination of Watts, Cadence, Heart rate and other computer pacer programmes which are great tools that can be integrated into any Triathlon or cycle training regime to improve your cycling performance. Scott Neyedli To Join CompuTrainer in 2009 If your interested in purchasing a Computrainer, put in the message box referred by S. Neyedli & I can receive a small commission on the sale to aid my ever growing training costs. To read more on computrainer refer to there website cheers Scotty |

DKIB Team News - Australia
Dresdnerkleinwort Article - Scott Neyedli reports from Australia Scott Neyedli reports from Australia Scott Neyedli on 16.01.2009 - 09:11 h You just arrived in the training camp in Australia. What was the main point for your decision for Down Under? I’ve been training there last year. Getting away to a better climate provides a better opportunity for quality base mileage more specifically in cycling. It also provides me with heat acclimation adaptations to what most race conditions are under as opposed to the cold environment in Scotland. What are the advantages of a common training camp? Being around other athletes, sharing training rides and sessions creates a competitive and motivating environment by pushing one another. How looks your training plan for Australia? My training plan will be mostly made of building on quality, low intensity base and strength mileage that will put me good stead for the 2009 race season. How does a training camp in the beginning of the season differ from a training camp before Hawaii for example? At the start of the season you go back to basics and address areas in performance you think you can work on technique or weaknesses. Training camp prior to a race would be mostly fine tuning in some key work, out and final acclimation to the environment and surroundings. By spending eleven weeks on the other end of the world – what does an Ironman put in his suitcase? You’re restricted by weight by the airlines, so taking only the bare essentials is required. Basic itinerary would be: bike frame, race and training wheels, bike tools, SRM power meter computer, pump, wetsuit, trunks, goggles, towel, cycle shoes, running shoes, normal shoes, some regular clothes, bike and run gear (both hot & wet conditions) and laptop. That all fits into one suitcase. Additionally I take one bike case and one hand luggage. |

Team Interview
Interview with Scott Neyedli Scott Neyedli on 17.12.2008 - 17:25 h My personal highlight was the 2nd place at Ironman UK. Being a rookie winner and defending champion at this years’ Ironman UK, there was a lot of pressure going back. After a very poor swim, I exited the water in 12th position much further down the field than anticipated. I think I showed good character and mental toughness in my own race. First my race didn’t go to plan, but then I climbed through the field from 12th to 4th position off the bike and then to 2nd position at the end of the marathon. How you are going to train and prepare during the winter 08/09?I’ve a minor operation in hospital next week. Initially I'll do maybe some light training and gym strength depending on how I recover in Scotland. In the new year and fully recovered, I will establish a 20 hours swim bike run route and then travel to the Australian Sunshine coast to build on technique and quality base over the majority of the next 3 months. What are your goals for 2009?At this moment I would say Ironman Lanzarote (May 24th) and then Ironman Hawaii. Lanzarote was where I first heard of triathlon and Ironman. Hawaii is the principle in our sport like the Tour de France is in cycling. How would you describe the athlete Scott Neyedli?I think I’m a well grounded athlete, independent but chilled or laid back in personality. I like to think that I take a scientific or analytical approach with a blend of common sense to my hard work. What other sport beside triathlon are you interested in?I like taking part in most things, physical activities or anything with an adrenaline rush, but I do love alpine skiing specifically. If you had three wishes free for 2009 – what would they be?To be the best I can be World Peace To win the lottery Quo vadis, triathlon? What do you think, how is this sport going to be in 5-10 years?Triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the world, hopefully this will continue to expand and attract the fittest athletes from all over the world. Maybe we'll see someone break Luc Van Lierds Ironman world record and Kona course records in the coming years. |
