Scott's chat page

It is a pretty solitary existence on the road sometimes, so please send me a few words about anything at all, tell me how you are doing in triathlon, ask me any questions, whatever you want....just remember to leave your name and I'll get back to you!

Hi Scott, how are you doing?
Brilliant result at Busselton, I should have checked and I would have come down and said hi. I did it 2 years ago and i'm planning on next year. I live South of Perth now. Not sure if you remember me- Simon Prue, used to work at Cannons in Aberdeen

Well done at Busselton, nice result for a real stinker weather wise. Someone said you saw a shark on the Busselton swim course, I would have been petrified if I'd known a shark was out there. I always swim happily ignorant of the marine life at Busselton. I'm glad I only found out today, if I'd known during the swim, I'd have been running on water to get off the swim course. Best luck with your next one. DT

Scott - awesome result in WA. Really chuffed for you as it looks like you really put it together down there. We have chatted a few times in Kona and it's nice to see you having a good day. Onwards and upwards for 2010 and hopefully see you at Lava Java again next year. Tim Bishop

Hi Scott, Excellent race result at Busselton . The temps must have been a bugger!
All that hard work and sleeping with 2 cats paid off.

Brave effort Scott. I know you wouldn't give up for mortal pain issues. Sounds like it has given you confidence though, so we look forward to the 2010 reports.

Ive used keywin pedals for 2 seasons now & cant see my self changing. There New Zealand made
- I believe Cat Morrison, Bryan Rhodes & Terrenzo Bezzona all use them.
There the lightest pedal on the market If you include the cleat weight ie Time's sales pitch is "the lightest pedal" but doesn't include the cleat weight that accompany's the pedal. I think there made from a compound plastic (check there website) but there stiff (good transmission)& can be adjusted to fixed or float position. Also you can purchase in standard axel size, +3, +6, -3 -6mm axels which I dont think other company's offer these ranges(just standard off the shelf). So depending on your hip width (or abnormality in say in 1 leg) you can be more precise in a better transmission alignment of your anatomy - I use the -3mm
- It should be noted that your shoe width may limit your use in the smaller axel size's (crank rub)

Hi Scott, it was really good to hear you mentioned at the weekend, looking good.Sorry it ended the way it did.I was wondering if you could say something about keywin pedals, kris gemmell swares by them. How do they differ from any other pedal?

Cheers

Hi Scott,

Sorry it ended the way it did. We were following the race in Aberdeen into the small hours and every now and then you got a mention so we could tell you were top 20 or thereabouts. As you say, top drawer swim-bike. Very courageous and quite awesome to see your name in among the greats. Good luck for recovery and the next one. Mend strong.

I suffered minor stomach issues on the bike to bad stomache issues on the run, dehydration & sun stroke.
I lost all my bike nutrician on a bump in the first mile of the bike & had to resort to what I get at the aid stations (a mix of different gels & a lot less than my planned Intake) this I believe led to the start of my stomach issues (chocolate & cappuccino gels are not good). I had reworked plan & held about 80% of what i took in, & still rode well I thought.
I caught Graves in the last mile or so of the bike & was in the transition tent with Johannsonn & Potts. I started the run well enogh for what 6-7 hrs of run training in last 6 weeks (0 for 4 & time in the last 2 weeks). I had strong pains in my kidney from the beginning before I started to regurgitate most of my stomach. I walked most aid stations & but couldn't keep anything down, I also lost the art of running a straight line but I survived until mile 13. The medi van followed me for a a good few miles & the camera crew tried to get me on camera in one of my bad spells but I think I escaped them. After being sick for what I think was 20th odd time, I was cooked, burnt & my the en-set of my calf injury was starting to flare up, I was done. Kapuut.
I not down beat I quite optimistic with the performance I was up there from the start so I look forward to the next one.

Sorry Scott, got confused in your last response to me, I thought it was Thomas H signing off the comment rather than your good self! Apologies and good to hear from you. I agree, Graves has a very strong track record on the bike, and his swim and run times over the full IM distance have surprised everyone too, including Stephen B I'm sure. Very interested to see how he will go on at Kona.
